The idea for this proposal stemmed from Mantle’s proposal to Nouns, to delegate 5 million MNT to the Nouns DAO.
Summary:
NUGP = Non-University Governance Program
Origin’s University Governance Program has been running for two years now. This proposal aims to expand the UGP to DAOs, crypto projects, clubs, and other non-university organizations to receive delegations of xOGN for the purpose of participating in Origin governance, supporting Origin proposals across other projects, and building relationships with the those actively building/participating in the web3 space.
Desired outcome:
Marketing of Origin Protocol and Origin Protocol’s products throughout the organization’s active members and alumni
Participation in governance voting beyond OUSD allocation proposals
Help draft proposals for Origin Protocol products on other DAOs
Support Origin Protocol proposals with delegated votes on other DAOs
Approach:
Initial organizations invited in this governance program expansion are limited, though
more are welcome to apply by connecting with the Origin team, or by reaching out to peter@originprotocol.com. I am suggesting that we start by inviting Nouns and the ATXDao, as they are DAOs both already familiar with Origin Protocol and some of the Origin Protocol products.
Delegation Amount:
For each organization participating, Origin will vote-lock a predetermined amount of OGN for the maximum 1 year and delegate the voting power to the wallet of the organization’s choice.
I am suggesting the following options for amount of xOGN to delegate to NUGP participants:
80k xOGN (less than all current UGP participants)
110k xOGN (equal to most current UGP participants)
165k xOGN (1.5x most current UGP participants)
220k xOGN (2x most current UGP participants)
Expectations:
Each participating organization is expected to participate in regular governance votes. At least one member of the delegated organization is expected stay up to date with Origin Protocol’s DAO by attending monthly community calls, viewing community call recordings, or by participating in the discussion of active proposals. This is to ensure everyone in the organization has the information they need to be making good decisions.
Cost
Costs for this program are minimal, with the largest cost being the gas fees to set up the new wallets and the time it takes to delegate the tokens to each organization.
@theOriginalPete looking at mETH proposal, they will give voting power if nouns allocate funds to their LST, are you suggesting that we give voting power to nouns without any commitment of funds allocation?
Additionally, I believe we need to adjust the desired outcome.
Nouns actually made an investment into OETH last year via Lil Nouns, which you can see in their wallet here. Maybe a smaller delegation can be provided from last year’s investment, and a larger delegation can be made with a commitment of funds.
Any non-university organization, club, project, or DAO is welcome to apply, but not all will be accepted. The number of UGP participating schools is currently at capacity, there will likely be a cap on the number of available NUGP positions as well.
Yes, as is the same with the universities participating in the UGP.
DAOs, organizations, clubs, and projects that are committing to a purchase of an Origin Protocol product will have priority, followed by those who have a larger influence and foothold across web3, but Origin Protocol’s best interest will always remain top of mind during the selection process if there are many applications.
The amount will be determined via Snapshot governance vote, most likely ranked choice, starting with the above options. If you’d like to suggest another amount to add, now would be the time to do so.
I am suggesting that we also invite PGov in the initial round, as PGov is also familiar with Origin’s products and has supported Origin Protocol with their voting power multiple times on DAOs such as Optimism, Compound, Interest Protocol, Arbitrum and Reserve.
Thank you @theOriginalPete! We’ve followed Origin for a few years now (ever since University days ) and would love the opportunity to be more involved!
